Michelle A. Beaty

Ms. Beaty joined Blue Williams in 2008 as an associate. In February 2014, Ms. Beaty was appointed as an Assistant Special Counsel for the Louisiana Judiciary Commission. In February 2015, Ms. Beaty re-joined Blue Williams as Of Counsel. Her practice consists primarily of toxic tort litigation, premises liability, and insurance law. She has been a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 1994. She was named partner in 2016.


Ms. Beaty earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Duke University in 1991. After graduating from Duke, she received her juris doctorate from Tulane University Law School in 1994.


Ms. Beaty is a native of South Carolina and has been a resident of New Orleans since 1991. After graduating from law school, she began her practice handling domestic, bankruptcy, and personal injury cases. Ms. Beaty served as an assistant district attorney in the New Orleans District Attorney’s Office from 1996 to 1998 and then again from 2003 to 2008. Between those two periods of service as an assistant district attorney, she worked in insurance defense, focusing on auto and premises liability claims.

Bars, Courts, and Professional Affiliations

Ms. Beaty is admitted to practice before all state courts in Louisiana. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, as well as the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Louisiana State, New Orleans, and Jefferson Bar Associations. She is a member of DRI and formerly served on its Commercial Litigation Steering Committee and Publications Board. Ms. Beaty also serves as a board member of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel and is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Committee on the Profession. In addition to her professional affiliations, Ms. Beaty served as an assistant bar examiner in the area of constitutional law from 2001 to 2012 and is Chair of the Governing Board of Laureate Academy Charter School.
