Attorney Brief

Whitney Stewart joined Blue Williams as an associate attorney in 2019 and became Of Counsel in 2023. Her practice consists primarily of labor and employment law, governmental and municipal liability, insurance defense, medical malpractice defense, property and casualty litigation, environmental and toxic tort litigation, including asbestos litigation.

Education

Ms. Stewart graduated with honors from Southern University and A&M College in 2013, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology.  In 2019, she obtained her Juris Doctor from the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, graduating magna cum laude.  She was also recognized for graduating in the top five percent of her class. While attending the Southern University Law Center, Ms. Stewart was a member of the Journal of Race, Gender, & Poverty, where she served as Executive Editor. In addition, she was a member of the National Black Law Students Association, Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, the Southern University Law Center American Inn of Court, and the Student Bar Association. She also served as a Judicial Law Extern to the Honorable Brian A. Jackson, United States District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana and clerked at several firms in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge area, including Blue Williams, as a summer associate.

Narrative

Prior to attending law school, Ms. Stewart worked as a State Risk Adjuster for the Louisiana Patient’s Compensation Fund, which involved the application of claims law, particularly the medical malpractice statute; medical terminology and procedures; claims management; and claims investigation and evaluation to determine exposure of the Patient’s Compensation Fund. Adding to her diverse practice at the firm, Ms. Stewart serves as Mandeville Assistant City Attorney as of November 2020, wherein she provides a wide array of consultation services including, but not limited to, legal opinions and advice regarding civil litigation matters, dispute resolutions, and responds to inquiries by the City’s governing bodies regarding legal ramifications of pending litigation. She is also a member of the firm’s diversity and law clerk committees and is active in the community. Outside of the courtroom, Ms. Stewart is an adjunct professor and writing fellow at the Southern University Law Center, where she teaches legal writing and analysis to first-year law student and bar preparation for the Louisiana State Bar Examination and ethics for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, respectively.

Ms. Stewart is admitted to practice before all state courts in Louisiana, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western, and Middle Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, among other professional associations. Ms. Stewart also serves as a member of the LSBA’s Barristers for Boards Committee and previously served as co-chair of the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society’s Young Lawyers Committee. In addition, she is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
