Josephine H. Azuma

Attorney Brief

Mrs. Azuma joined Blue Williams as an associate attorney in 2013. Her practice consists primarily of defending workers’ compensation claims under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) and personal injury maritime claims, including cases filed under the Jones Act, General Maritime Law, and 905(b) of the LHWCA.

Education

Mrs. Azuma graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Alabama in 2008. She obtained her juris doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2011, where she graduated in the top 3% of her class. She was a member of the Loyola Law Review as well as the Loyola Moot Court Team.

Narrative

As an attorney advisor/law clerk for the Honorable Judge Larry Price, Mrs. Azuma managed discovery, conducted phone conferences, composed orders, and composed opinions under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA) and the Defense Base Act (DBA).

Bar, Courts & Professional Affiliations

Mrs. Azuma was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 2011. She is licensed to practice in all Louisiana state courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mrs. Azuma is a volunteer with the pro bono project.
