Bette Matheny joined Blue Williams in 2021 as an Associate in the Metairie office. Her practice consists primarily of insurance defense, property and casualty litigation.

Education

Mrs. Matheny is a New Orleans native. She graduated from Metairie Park Country Day School then earned her undergraduate degree in Spanish with a minor in Sociology from Louisiana State University in 2014. She attended the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University and graduated with a Juris Doctor and Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law.

Narrative

Mrs. Matheny was admitted to the bar in 2017. After graduating from law school, she served as a law clerk to the Honorable James J. Brady, United States District Judge for the Middle District of Louisiana. Mrs. Matheny is a former prosecutor for the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, where she served as a senior trial attorney, sitting first chair for the State of Louisiana for all non-capital felony cases in Section G of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court. Before joining Blue Williams, she worked as an associate at a small New Orleans law firm, where her practice was focused on insurance, construction, and a variety of other civil litigation matters.

Bar, Courts & Professional Affiliations

Mrs. Matheny is admitted to practice before all state courts in Louisiana and the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western, and Middle Districts of Louisiana. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Louisiana Claims Association. Mrs. Matheny has served as a member of the Pro Bono Project’s Justice for All Ball Committee, the American Cancer Society’s Shuck Cancer Junior Executive Board, the Louisiana Claims Association Board, and most recently as President of the New Orleans Claims Association.
