Mr. Pizzo is Of Counsel in the Metairie office and has been with the firm since its inception in 1983. His practice consists primarily of healthcare law and professional liability. He has been a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 1979.

Education

Mr. Pizzo graduated second in his class from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, in 1975. He was then accepted into a fellowship program with the Universities of Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee and received his master’s degree in public administration in 1976. He graduated from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 1979 in the top 15 percent of his class. Throughout law school Mr. Pizzo worked as a full-time law clerk for the partners who established Blue Williams.

Narrative

Immediately after he graduated in 1979, Mr. Pizzo began an intense litigation practice. His first jury trial came two weeks after receiving his license to practice. For the next three years, he had full responsibility for a complete general casualty docket involving numerous trials, appellate arguments and mediations. In 1982, he began representing physicians in medical malpractice cases, becoming one of the first outside counsel for Louisiana’s doctor-owned mutual insurance company. At the same time, he began representing dentists in dental malpractice litigation. The focus of his practice continues to be in the area of hospital, physician, dental and professional liability. As an adjunct to his litigation practice, he has also developed a corporate healthcare practice representing physicians, dentists and hospitals in numerous business transactions and corporate matters. Additionally, he is counsel for medical staff and hospitals doing revisions to medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and policies and procedures. Recently, Mr. Pizzo was appointed as an arbitration judge by a national arbitration organization and conducted several hearings in this capacity. He has been involved in many high-profile cases and has argued successfully to the Supreme Court of the state of Louisiana. He frequently gives lectures and seminars on an array of healthcare issues.

Mr. Pizzo holds an AV® Peer Review Rated certification mark from Martindale-Hubbell and was recently inducted as a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.
