As of September 1, 2024, Mr. Poirier has transitioned to the role of Of Counsel at Blue Williams. He has been a valued member of the firm since 1991, previously serving as a partner in the Mandeville office. His legal practice has been primarily focused on professional liability, construction, and commercial litigation. In addition to his ongoing role at Blue Williams, Mr. Poirier has taken on the new challenge of serving as General Counsel and Director of Customer Relations for Tempest Energy, LLC, based in Covington, Louisiana.
Education
Mr. Poirier earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of New Orleans in 1990, after completing his first year of law school. He was inducted into the Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society for his academic achievements. In 1992, he received his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Tulane University Law School. During his time at Tulane, Mr. Poirier graduated with honors in trial advocacy, served as a senior fellow in the Legal Research and Writing Program, and received the American Jurisprudence Award in Admiralty: Personal Injury and Death. He also completed a focused curriculum and earned a certificate in environmental law.

Bar, Courts & Professional Affiliations
Mr. Poirier is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in both Louisiana and Mississippi, including the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is an active member of the Louisiana State, Mississippi, Covington, and Federal Bar Associations. His professional affiliations extend to the Defense Research Institute, the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, and the Louisiana Society of Hospital Attorneys. Mr. Poirier has also provided pro bono services to the Orleans Parish Juvenile Court and actively donates his time to the New Orleans Pro Bono Project and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services. Additionally, he serves on the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board, appointed by the Louisiana Superior Court.
Mr. Poirier has also held various leadership roles, including serving on the Board of Trustees for Leadership St. Tammany from 2007 to 2021, including two years as Chair. He is a past Chair and 10-year member of the Board of Directors for the Youth Service Bureau for Washington and St. Tammany Parishes. Furthermore, he has been involved with CHAMBERPAC, an affiliate of the West St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce, and served two terms on the Chamber’s Board. Mr. Poirier is a former Director of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Louisiana & Mississippi, the Federal Bar Association, and the University of New Orleans International Alumni Association. His contributions to legal education include serving on the Trial Advocacy Program faculty at LSU and speaking on various topics, such as Louisiana workers’ compensation, the Jones Act, maritime law remedies, and more.
