Jackson de Gruy represents employers, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, maritime companies, and government contractors in claims arising under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act (LHWCA), the Defense Base Act (DBA), the Jones Act, and related maritime laws.
Jackson assists clients with evaluating jurisdiction and coverage, investigating alleged workplace injuries, reviewing medical and employment evidence, managing discovery, and developing defenses addressing causation, disability, compensation, and medical benefits. His practice includes matters before the U.S. Department of Labor and litigation in Louisiana state and federal courts.
His academic background includes a Certificate in Energy and Environmental Law and Policy and a comparative law degree from LSU Law. Before becoming an attorney, Jackson clerked with Louisiana Sea Grant and Blue Williams, gaining experience with the legal and regulatory issues affecting Louisiana’s maritime, coastal, and energy sectors.
Jackson joined Blue Williams in 2024 and is an associate in the firm’s New Orleans office.

Jackson’s practice focuses on maritime and admiralty law, the LHWCA, the DBA, and related workers’ compensation matters. He represents clients in claims involving maritime employees, longshore and harbor workers, overseas government contractors, and other individuals whose injuries may fall within specialized federal compensation systems.
LHWCA and DBA claims often present threshold questions about jurisdiction, employee status, the location of an alleged injury, and the relationship between employment and claimed medical conditions. Jackson helps clients analyze these issues while developing the factual, medical, and procedural record needed to make informed claim decisions.
He assists with reviewing medical treatment and disability allegations, preparing discovery, coordinating evidence, researching dispositive legal issues, and preparing matters for conferences, hearings, litigation, and appeal.
Jackson’s training in energy, environmental, and comparative law provides additional context for matters involving maritime commerce, coastal operations, offshore work, and overseas employment. His prior experience with Louisiana Sea Grant exposed him to legal and policy issues affecting the state’s coast and marine industries.
Jackson is also a continuing legal education faculty member with the National Business Institute and has participated in its program, “The Nuts and Bolts of Handling Workers’ Compensation Cases.”
